From Thessaloniki, With Love

Here is to one of those spontaneous trips that I booked not knowing what to expect and yet, the sheer joy of exploring the unknown took better of me. Probably thats why, instead of landing in one of those dreamy touristy Greek islands with brightly blue painted doors, I chose the scruffy Thessaloniki. Fuelled by optimism, vibrant nightlife and a dash of chaos, this three day solo trip eventually turned out to be an amazing alternative city break with perks of traveling off season - ridiculous price offer from Ryanair to get there and being able to book one of the cutest little seaside apartments on-the-go in Airbnb .  White Tower, once served as prison in Turkish empire "Purple rays"  I have realized that feeling the pulse of a city in its peak hours is one thing, and it is a completely different experience to feel it while the city is just waking up. My first morning in the city and I was up at 5AM to go for my run. With Mount Athos peeking on one side and t

From Austria, With Love

Did you ever wake up with that tingling excitement of doing something you really, really want to do instead of doing what you're "supposed" to do? On the eve of my 29th birthday I woke up with the intense desire to explore a new territory and not throw the usual party the next day. With no agenda or expectations on what to get out of such an impromptu trip, I booked my flights to Austria. On telling the parents and friends about the change in plans, their first question was the same: Who are you going with? When I said I was going on my own, their reactions were all very similar.  “Aren’t you scared?” “Will it be safe?” “Alone on your birthday? But why?” Contrary to popular belief, traveling solo is never about alienation. In fact, its about making friends with the world and ourselves. Did you know Native Americans travelled for centuries  in order to commune with the world and ultimately discover their place within it? From flatland to highlands - Off to the mo

From Prague, With love

Prague happened on a Friday morning few weeks back, when I woke up and realized its been two years since I moved to Hamburg. This is the longest I have in another city outside my home country, and its freaking scary. Not because I don't like Hamburg, but getting more and more comfortable with the pulse of the city. Do I make any sense? Anyways, in the wake of my panic attack I decided to get out of Hamburg the same day. Thanks to my hour long commute to work and my three faithful Apps - Skyscanner, TripAdvisor, and HostelWorld - by the time I reached work I booked my way to Prague. No plans, no idea what to expect just few clothes and a overwhelming fear of getting stuck. It was not until the flight landed in Vaclav Havel Airport that night, I realized that my impulsive holiday decision not only pushed me to a whole weekend of uncertainty but I freaking loved it! No Czech Koruna in my pocket, just a few Euros and no clue how to reach my hostel.  Oh well, this is only the s

From Rome, With love

Disclaimer: The author takes no responsibility if you get sudden pangs of hunger while reading this post. She herself had a hard time composing it, and reliving those well spent gastronomical moments in Bella Italia! Who ever said you can’t always have your cake and eat it too, was dead wrong. Especially if it’s my birthday cake with 28 candles on! The cake was flavoured with the sights and sounds of Rome, causing an extended birthday weekend to happen with an amazing company of friends. I had a fabulous time under the strong Roman sun, embracing the craziness the city has to offer and turning 50 shades of brown. Before we proceed any further .. #letmetakeaselfie! The city is loud, crowded and chaotic – just the way I like! And if you have your hotel room is facing the road, forget getting a wink of sleep – at night there was a drunken cacophony of singing, swearing and shouting tourists, and during day it was road drilling right under my window.
